Why were we talking with a transport company in Spain?

We specialise in providing legal services such as creating Wills and Lasting Powers of Attorney. Together with service partners we also provide Estate Administration services when one of our clients passes away.

The core of Estate Administration relates to agreeing Estate valuations with HMRC and obtaining a Grant of Probate. This is often followed by collecting in assets and distributing to beneficiaries.

Sometimes a house or property will need to be sold. There are things to consider such as getting a house ready for sale. This might involve arranging cleaners, decorators and gardeners to get the property in the best possible condition. Then there are Estate Agents and conveyancers to appoint.

Quite often the executor lives close by and can arrange some or all of these services. However, sometimes that is not the case.

Earlier this month the Executor of the Estate of one of our clients had to get a property in the Fuengirola area of Spain ready for sale. The Executor worked full time in the UK and had no time to try and make arrangements and asked us for assistance. There were a number of complications but to cut a long story short we had four days notice to arrange clearance of the apartment with licensed disposal of goods as well as transport of items donated to charity. Because of work commitments and flights restrictions the Executor could only spend one day at the property sorting items. We were tasked with arranging the transport which had to be carried out within a small windows of two hours.

We contacted numerous transportation and removal companies in the Fuengirola area but with only four days notice everyone was fully booked.

However, Scott Rudkin at SR Transportation, which is a family run company, was kind enough to rearrange his work schedule to squeeze in the requirements of our client. He saved the day for our Executor and we are truly grateful for the good old fashioned personal service the company provided.
