The Fruits of Your Lifetime Work in One Document

Everyone likes to look for ways to save money when making a purchase. Therefore, it makes sense that inexpensive online options for creating Wills have become increasingly popular in recent years. However, as a Will is one of the most important documents that you can create, we strongly recommend thinking twice before proceeding with a budget or DIY Will.

Before creating a Will, it is important to ask yourself if the Will fits your personal circumstances, if the Will is worded well enough to not be contested, if there are ways for you to make amendments, and whether the provider has the correct insurances. When you use budget or DIY Will services, many of these answers could be “no”.

You spend your entire life building your estate in an attempt to leave your assets to those you love. An incorrectly worded or poorly constructed Will can result in assets not being distributed as you wish, more tax being paid than necessary, or even the Will being contested. In fact, it is thought that DIY Will toolkits are one of the main reasons for the 62% increase in High Court inheritance disputes over the past two years. Co-Operative Legal Services estimate that DIY Wills are the cause of prolonged probate for nearly 38,000 families each year.

When a Will goes wrong, bereaved families can be left in financial limbo. Court fees might be needed, contentious probate solicitors might need to be hired, and the distribution of property and other financial assets can be slowed. Beyond financial issues, the issues that arise from low cost and DIY Wills can cause strain on family relations.

The high number of DIY Wills ending up in the High Court and the financial and familial struggles can be avoided by using a professional Will writer. At Casey & Associates, we are a highly specialised Will Writing and Estate Planning company that prides itself on the time and care that we take to get to know our clients and understand their circumstances to write a bespoke Will to cover bespoke needs. We also provide review appointments for our clients to ensure that your Will is always updated with any changing circumstances.
