The Benefit Of Professional And Trusted Wills Advice
John and Mary were in their early seventies back in 2010 when they had an appointment with a Casey & Associates consultant. Here are two possible outcomes of that appointment.
Outcome 01 :
John and Mary decided to save a few pounds and write their own Wills leaving everything to each other and then on second death to their children Ann and Belinda in equal shares.
John died in 2015. Sometime after John’s death Mary felt lonely at home on her own and she met and subsequently married Michael. Mary was not aware that marriage revoked her 2010 Will. When Mary died in 2019 her assets totalled £250,000. Under the “Intestacy Rules” all £250,000 went to Michael and nothing went to Ann and Belinda.
Outcome 02 :
John and Mary decided to take advice on their Wills from the Casey & Associates Consultant. Casey & Associates created a professionally drafted Will which placed the assets of the first to die in a family trust for the lifetime of the survivor. The beneficiaries of the family trust were the two children being Ann and Belinda in equal shares.
John died in 2015. Sometime after John’s death Mary felt lonely at home on her own and she met and subsequently married Michael. Mary continued to receive the Casey & Associates monthly newsletter and was aware that marriage revoked her 2010 Will. So when Mary and Michael married Casey & Associates created new Wills for each of them protecting “their” assets for “their” children. Furthermore, when the first died the survivor could continue to live in the new family home for the rest of their life. When the survivor died all of Mary’s assets went to Ann and Belinda and all of Michael’s assets went to his children from his first marriage.
