Storing your Will correctly
Creating a Will is crucial for safeguarding your family’s future and ensuring their well-being after your passing. During this process, it can be easy to overlook how and where you are going to store your Will. There can be major ramifications if you do not store your will correctly as it could be lost, thrown out or destroyed.
If your Will cannot be found at your death, then an outdated Will that can be located will become valid. This means that the executor you assigned in the old Will shall be placed in charge. This historic Will, which is now valid, is likely to be extremely out of date compared to your wishes on death. For example, you may have had a falling out with the executor you put in charge or had children that you didn’t have previously. If no previous Will is found, then you will die intestate. The intestacy laws are set for where your assets will go, and they may be drastically different to your wishes. Therefore, ensuring your Will is stored correctly and safely is a crucial part of the process.
Here at Casey & Associates we understand the importance of storing your Wills and want to offer our clients peace of mind knowing that their Will is safe. That’s why when you purchase a Will with us you can opt for Casey & Associates to store your Will. If you select this service, we scan the Will before placing it into our fire-resistant storage facility and then either email or post you a copy of the signed Will.
If you decide to opt-out of this service, please make sure that you store your Will in a fire-resistant environment.
