How much does a Will cost
When it comes to having a Will written there are a number of different ways to choose your Will Writer and one question is always ‘how much does a Will cost’. In this article we will discuss various options when it comes to writing your Will and how much this may subsequently cost.
How much does a Casey & Associates Will cost?
At Casey & Associates we believe in being open, honest and transparent about what we charge. We therefore list pricing of our most popular services on our website, which includes a reduction for Mirror Wills, multiple Lasting Power of Attorney documents as well as a separate Estate Planning package. To see the costs for these services, visit the pricing page of our website.
And what other options are there?
It is not always necessary for a Will Writing company like Casey & Associates to create your Will and other Estate Planning documents. There can be times when, if you have a very uncomplicated set of circumstances and a low value Estate, a DIY Will would suffice. If you did decide to go with a DIY Will, then there could be very little cost attached to your Will as you can fill in an inexpensive online template.
Beware if you do go down this route that you then will not have a professional checking your Will, querying what you have written and making suggestions based on their experience. The cost of getting this wrong could be significant for your beneficiaries and is likely to only be discovered when it is too late.
If your circumstances are not as straightforward and you perhaps own a significant estate or have children, you should get a Will professionally drafted. The alternative to a Will Writer like Casey & Associates is a Solicitor. Solicitor fees are usually higher than a Will Writer so the cost of your Will is likely to be more. They also do not usually have a ‘product price’ like we do for our services. This means that your Will is often drafted on a time basis and the fees could end up being higher than anticipated.
What else do you need to consider?
When thinking of drafting a Will, it is important to note that a Will is not always the only document you may need, and there is much more to Estate Planning than just Wills. So, when considering the cost of your Will, it would be wise to factor in potentially:
- Lasting Powers of Attorney – Lasting Power of Attorney documents will allow an appointed individual to make decisions on your behalf should you not have the mental capacity to make decisions yourself or be unwilling to do so. These are important documents even as a married couple.
- Trusts – A Trust will allow you to set aside certain assets for the benefit of your beneficiaries. With careful Estate Planning, Trusts can allow your beneficiaries to benefit from Inheritance Tax Planning, along with protection of the asset in trust from care fees assessment by the local authority and protection from sideways disinheritance.
- Funeral Plans – A funeral plan will make sure your funeral is carried out exactly as you wish and will mean limited, or no additional cost to your family when this needs to be organised.
- Will Storage – We offer secure Will Storage for a small monthly fee. You can choose to store your Will yourself, but this can lead to problems if, for example, your Will can not be found. Will Storage is extremely important, and you can read more about why here.
